Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

At Flagg Nursery School, we are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child is valued and supported to achieve their full potential. We recognise that all children learn and develop at different rates, and some may need additional or different support to help them succeed.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) refers to children who may have a learning difficulty or disability that requires special educational provision. This means giving children the right support at the right time so they can access learning, build confidence and develop independence.

We believe that early identification and support are key to helping children thrive. Our experienced staff work closely with families, and where appropriate, with external professionals, to ensure each child’s individual needs are understood and met. We follow a graduated approach of assess, plan, do and review to support progress and respond to children’s changing needs.

Partnership with parents and carers is central to everything we do. We value your knowledge of your child and will work with you at every stage to ensure the best possible outcomes. If you have any concerns about your child’s development, we encourage you to talk to us — we are here to listen and help.

At Flagg Nursery School, we are mindful of our responsibilities under the SEND Code of Practice and the Disability Discrimination Act, and ensure that our practice reflects these expectations, as set out in our SEND Policy.

We recognise that every child is unique, and we tailor our support to meet individual needs. A range of approaches and interventions are used to support children’s development, and we carefully consider each child’s specific strengths and areas for development when deciding how best to provide support.

In consultation with parents, any initial concerns about a child's progress are recorded and a set of monitoring procedures are followed.  We work closely with Educational Psychologists to offer advice to staff and parents, recommend learning materials and teaching methods, or suggest specialist help or extra support.  If parents are concerned about any aspect of their child's development they can request a meeting through the Headteacher or Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo).

Our SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator) leads the provision for children with additional needs across the nursery and works closely with staff, parents and external professionals to ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive.

If you have any concerns about your child’s development, or would like to discuss the support available, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We are always happy to talk through any questions and work in partnership with you.
