Admissions

Flagg Nursery school offers a flexible and inclusive approach to places for children whose parents want them to access nursery school provision prior to starting primary school. Children can be admitted to Flagg Nursery School from the age of 2.

Places
Flagg Nursery School has 25 places per session for children from the age of 3. Sessions run from 9am until 12pm or 9am until 3pm including lunchtime. We offer universal (15 hours) and extended (30 hours) free early years education entitlement. We aim to be flexible depending on availability and following our admissions criteria.

Places are also available for children who are 2 years old. Children may start at Flagg Nursery School the term after their second birthday. We offer funded and non-funded places. Two-year old places are limited to a maximum of 15 children per session. We require that children attend for a minimum of three sessions per week. In our experience children struggle to settle if they only attend for fewer sessions.

Parents may decide to take up all or part of their funded sessions or share them with another setting. Parents need to inform us on admission if they are sharing provision with another provider.

We expect parents to take up the full number of universal funded hours available to them from the term after their third birthday (fifteen hours per week).  This is to maintain the financial sustainability of the school and because we recognise that this leads to better outcomes for the children. We expect children to have a settling in period which will be reviewed regularly.

Extra sessions can be bought for 2, 3 and 4 year olds, depending on availability.

Breakfast club is available for children who may need to attend before school. This is covered by our Extended Services provision and requires payment (see Charging and Remissions Policy).  Extended hours funding (30 hours) can also be used to pay for breakfast club.

Priority of admission is given to children as stated in our Admissions Policy 2025.

Our Disability Equality Scheme 2024-27  sets out how the Governing Body promotes and meets its duties to ensure equality of opportunity for anyone with accessibility issues (pupils, staff, parents, carers, community users).

Please contact the Headteacher to discuss any specific admission needs.

Settling into Nursery

Starting nursery school is a big step for your child and for yourself. All children are different and will settle in their own way.  We'll discuss how best to do this in partnership with you. A child who is encouraged to settle happily will gain immensely in confidence and develop a positive attitude to school.

Before children start at Flagg Nursery School we offer stay & play visits so that children can meet staff and become familiar with the nursery environment. We are happy for you to leave your child with us for their first sessions, as we are able to offer them individual support.  However, you may wish to support them by staying. We are flexible and will work with you to decide what is appropriate for you and your child.
