I have worked at Flagg Nursery School since I returned to Bakewell, where I grew up, in 2002 initially employed as a supply teacher for one term! I found it to be such a magical place that I couldn’t bring myself to leave and my fourth child came here, my other three having spent their early lives in Birmingham. I was appointed as the head teacher in 2013 and my mission has been to create a happy, supportive and respectful school community where every child is valued as an individual and every family feels welcome.  I previously taught children aged 4-8 in schools in London, Birmingham, Singapore and Osaka, Japan I am very fortunate to be supported by a very capable and committed Governing Body.

Flagg Nursery School has been a very important place for our family.   Mr Boam was one of the last pupils when Flagg was a Primary School, our children and foster children have attended as nursery school pupils and now our grandchildren are attending.  As the school has given to us so much, I wanted to be a Governor to be able to give back and enable lots more families to have the experiences we have been privileged to receive.

I have expertise with children with special educational needs and disabilities and chair the teaching and learning committee.

I am currently working in an infant class and have a keen interest in Early Years. My son attends Flagg and has flourished which encouraged me to become a parent governor and give back to the outstanding provision.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and reading.

My eldest daughter started Flagg in 2021 and my youngest will join next year. I was struck by how special a place the nursery is and how much my daughter has thrived there.  I joined the governors in Spring 22 and have worked briefly in schools both in this country and abroad before retraining as financial adviser.
